Bunbury Rowing Club welcomes new members anytime!

Zero to Hero 2020

Zero to Hero – Beginner Rowing Team Challenge is an annual event hosted by Bunbury Rowing Club to invite people to try a new sport, rowing!
We find most that people fall in love with rowing and become members of the BRC once the challenge is completed.
Zero to Hero participants encourage teams of four and are trained by an assigned coach which are current members of the Club.
Registration is $110 per person. This covers all training, the Regatta race day and a Zero to Hero training shirt.
Training will commence the week of 20th January with the Regatta held on Saturday 22nd February.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?
We invite anyone over the age of 16 who is able to swim 100m fully clothed (in case you fall out). If you have a pre-existing medical condition, we recommend a clearance from your doctor before signing up.

I have never rowed before. Will I be able to do it?
Give it a try! Once you grasp the basics, there is no better feeling then being out on the water.

Do I need to find/create my own team?
It is beneficial for participants to create teams with people whom they know, purely from a training schedule. You will find pre-connected people are able to coordinate training times together easily; mums once kids are at school, office workers first thing in the morning and shift workers later in afternoon.
However, if you are keen to participate but don’t have a team, we will be more than happy to help find you a team.

When do we train?
That is up to your own team. You will be given the name and phone number of your coach and between them and your team you will coordinate a time and day that suits everyone.

On Regatta day do we race more than once?
Yes, you will race at least 3 times over the morning, more depending on number of team entrants.

Do I have to wear Lycra?
No! There is no need to wear a zootie (the all in one combo you see them wear at the Olympics) to compete. You will find the tighter your clothing the better for rowing, so your oars don’t get stuck.

Many teams end up wearing a ‘uniform’ as such on race day.

What do I bring?
Bring a hat, a towel, a pair of socks and a water bottle. Oh and a change of clothes… just in case!

Do I need to purchase equipment?
No. All equipment (boats, oars etc) is provided.

I want to train on my way to work without having to go home first. Is this possible?
Yes, we have showers and change room facilities for Zero to Hero participants to use.

I love it so much I want to join. Can I change my registration for Zero to Hero to an annual membership?
Yes! If you want to continue rowing after the challenge, we can upgrade your membership. Annual rowing memberships (including use of the gym) is $370 per person or $600 for a family membership (2 adults, 2 children over 12). As a Zero to hero participant you will be credited $75 off your annual fees.

The winning team will receive a large discount on their annual membership if they choose to join.
